DAB+ adoption in Indonesia was confirmed in August 2023, with the publication of the "Regulation of the Minister of Communication and Informatics No. 5 of 2023 on Master Plan and Operational Technical Provisions for the Use of Radio Frequency Spectrum for the Purpose of Radio Broadcasting Services Through Terrestrial Media". The document sets out that "VHF Band III in the 202-230 MHz radio frequency range uses digital technology standards based on Digital Audio Broadcasting (DAB+)," and this will be used for the public broadcaster Radio Republik Indonesia.

In April 2016 public broadcaster Radio Republik Indonesia (RRI) launched trial DAB+ digital radio services in Jakarta.

A decree issued by Ministry of Communication and Informatics Republic of Indonesia (MCIT) states that Indonesia will use DAB+ as its official digital platform on Band III.

Radio Republik Indonesia (RRI), the public service broadcaster, has been operating a DAB+ trial since August 2013, powered by a 2.5 KW transmitter and antenna located at the top of the RRI headquarters in Jakarta, Indonesia, using channel 12D VHF on Band III. The first stage of the DAB+ trial will cover the Jakarta area and in the future RRI plans to develop coverage and the number of programmes covered by the trial.

RRI and MCIT will launch DAB+ services from two RRI radio stations, one in Entikong, a small city of Kalimantan / Borneo, and the other in Batam City, an island close to border of Singapore. These services are in line with Presidential policy to serve Indonesian citizens in border areas and remote areas. The content will be local, regional and national programmes.
